Becky’s Reflections

Laredo and 3 Pastors-

and spent the next few days resting and doing a lot of thinking. So much to consider and reflect upon, and be humbled by. And, the big question… Now what? As God does, he never leaves me hanging for long. That following Sunday I visited my son’s new church in Troutman. A guest pastor spoke on Luke 5:18-26. The takeaway from the sermon was, “Are you willing to be ridiculous and do things that defy worldly “common sense” in order that others might see Jesus?” That same Sunday as Pastor Canipe taught from Luke 12:32-40, on “What it Takes”. To sell what you have and give alms, and to be prepared at all times for Jesus coming as the bridegroom to claim His bride (the Church). And then there’s the message we saw lived out by Pastor Lorenzo Ortiz, who beautifully captures the essence of both lessons in his daily life. He stopped being a building contractor to go into full-time ministry. Just as Jesus’ followers left their nets to follow him, Lorenzo embodies the modern day apostle. He lives by faith, trusting God to supply for his family’s needs. He throws himself fully into simply loving the lost and pointing them to Jesus. The question facing us all is this: are we willing to do the same? Are we willing to step out and appear foolish to show God’s unfettered love to the world?
